Our Environmental Commitment
We are dedicated to preserving the world around us, and we strive to reduce, reuse and recycle in all areas of our business. We are continually looking for new ways to further our commitment to protecting the planet.

Packaging Choices
Zia uses environmentally friendly packaging including a high post-consumer recycled content paperboard for our cartons, with 80% post-consumer waste and 20% responsibly sourced virgin fiber. This paperboard is Forest Stewardship Council certified, assuring that only responsibly sourced virgin and recycled fiber is used to make our recyclable cartons.

Our product packaging utilizes recycled and recyclable materials. Zia selects containers that are made from easy to recycle materials, such as glass and plastic. Glass bottles and jars are durable and accepted universally through curbside recycling programs and recycling centers. We use plastic bottles and jars with recycling codes #1 (PET) and #2 (HDPE), which are picked up through most curbside recycling programs. Some of our plastic squeezable tubes are recycling code #4 (LDPE). Historically, LDPE has not been accepted through most American curbside recycling programs, but this is changing as more communities are starting to accept it. Some jars, caps and lids are recycling code #5 (PP), and at this time, few recycling programs accept lids or caps of any kind.

Paper Choices and Recycling
Zia uses New Leaf Paper for printed promotional materials. New Leaf paper is made with 80% recycled fiber, 60% post-consumer waste, and is processed chlorine free. As a result of our choice to print on recycled rather than virgin paper, we have been able to preserve many valuable natural resources. This year alone, we have saved* approximately:

  • 10 fully grown trees
  • 6,252 gallons of water
  • 7 million BTUs of energy
  • 502 pounds of solid waste
  • 1,306 pounds of greenhouse gases

As a direct result of our company-wide recycling procedures, we are also able to save** an amazing:

  • 25 fully grown trees per week
  • 10,500 gallons of water per week
  • 6,300 kilowatt hours of energy per week

Carbon Footprint
Whenever possible, Zia sources packaging components and ingredients locally near our product manufacturing facilities, in order to reduce our carbon impact from transportation. We are continually looking for new ways to further our commitment to protecting the planet. Seemingly small choices can make a world of difference.
